The Magic of Wilpattu National Park

Wilpattu National Park is Sri Lanka’s largest and one of its oldest national parks, located in the island’s north-western region. Renowned for its unique landscape of natural lakes, known locally as villus, the park features dense forests, open grasslands, and diverse wetland habitats that support an exceptional variety of wildlife. It is one of the best places in Sri Lanka to spot the elusive Sri Lankan leopard, along with sloth bears, elephants, spotted deer, crocodiles, and more than 200 species of birds. Unlike busier safari destinations, Wilpattu offers a quieter and more remote wildlife experience, allowing visitors to explore its vast wilderness in a peaceful setting. Guided jeep safaris reveal the park’s rich biodiversity and scenic beauty, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers, wildlife photographers, and travellers seeking an authentic safari adventure in Sri Lanka.
